Spring into studio stitches needlepoint

Hello stitchers! I hope this finds you in good health and with a pile of projects and a stash of new ideas.

Here in Adelaide, Spring has sprung and we are putting away our winter woolies and looking forward to the sunshine and more time to stitch.

In the studio

It’s busy time in the studio finalising projects, planning new designs for 2022 and getting ready for Christmas.

On that note, if you are planning to order for Christmas, please get in early and remember the trusty Studio Stitches Christmas gift certificate if you just can’t decide.

The exciting news in the studio is that the hand painted Sturt Pea cushion is now ready to order. This is the third of my Aussie floral icons and I’m really thrilled with the results as I hope you are too.

The iconic desert flower has been a favourite of mine since I first saw it in flower in the Flinders Ranges South Australia. On a visit to the Botanic Gardens Adelaide, there they were in spectacular flower, so I was able to get up close take a photo and quickly sketch them, knowing they were a must for my floral series.  https://www.botanicgardens.sa.gov.au/

I have one last design for 2021. A small project called Meadow https://studiostitches.com.au/product/hand-painted-needlepoint-bag/. This is a small shoulder bag I’ve been working on for some time. The needlepoint was easy, but the hold up has been writing clear to follow instructions so that turning the needlepoint into a bag is made easy. I finally decided to go with drawn instructions supplied by the wonderful Maureen Pritchard who is a friend and a wonderful illustrator.  I am just putting the finishing touches together ready for December, but here’s a sneak preview. of the Meadow bag.

Christmas at Studio Stitches

I recently found a design for a pin-cushion called Spring in my “maybe” drawer and have decided to make a gift of the design to my very special subscribers from November to December. This gives you plenty of time to stitch this project for someone special.

Just email me barbara@studiostitches.com.au and say “Yes please!” and I’ll send you the full colour pdf graph and instructions.  Here’s the finished Spring design. I look forward to hearing from you.

Updates –  If you don’t already, please check out Studio Stitches on Instagram. This is where I post more regularly and a great way to see what happening at Studio Stitches.

Out and about

I wanted to share news of a touring exhibition of the Australian fashion designers Easton Pearson whose exquisite clothes you may remember or be lucky enough to own. The colours, patterns and textures were a delight and inspirational for anyone interested in textiles.

The archive of over 3,000 garments is housed in the Brisbane Museum. In South Australia the exhibition was at the Signal Gallery in beautiful Goolwa where we enjoyed a fabulous lunch of soft crab burger with Asian salad at Bombora .http://www.bomboragoolwa.com

Check out if this exhibition is touring near you. I’ve added a link to a Vogue article for those interested to read more about this creative team of these celebrated Australian designers and get inspired.https://www.vogue.com.au/fashion/news/easton-pearson-is-closing-after-27-years/news-story/0d23f6231be5f0c5f4325fb4cf5f0130

Well, that’s it for me for this month.

Stay safe and remember to enjoy every stitch!
