It’s all about Mothers in May

Did you know the tradition of giving gifts on the second Sunday in May began here in Australia in 1924?

Mrs Janet Heyden began visiting patients at the Newington Home for Women in Sydney and was struck by the number of lonely women at the home.

Mrs Heyden was so moved by these women she decided to bring them gifts of goodies donated by local businesses and school children helped to deliver the gifts to the women.

The idea of  celebrating Mother’s Day grew and quickly caught the public imagination and quickly spread around Australia and to America.

Mother and Child

My Mothers’ Day contribution is this lovely little cushion called Mother and Child. The idea for the design came from a card I designed for a friends new baby and I soon saw the potential for a needlepoint.

My original card that inspired the cushion.

The design comes in two colour ways and is just $92.00. https://studiostitches.com.au/product/mother-and-child-bright/

If your Mum lives in Adelaide she can also have a one hour free lesson here in my studio at a time that suits.

Now that’s great gift for any month of the year!
