Autumn news from Studio Stitches needlepoint

Autumn in red and blue

Adelaidians commonly refer to this month as Mad March. That’s because there is so much going on in our beautiful little city. Writer’s Week, The Adelaide Festival, The Fringe and before COVID a very noisy but exciting car race.

While the public festivities have been restricted by COVID rules, the city is looking its best in beautiful Autumnal sunshine.  For those of you visiting Adelaide during Mad March or at some other time, here are some places I recommend you visit to see Australian textiles at their best.

New designs

Last month I showed you the hand painted painted canvas for a new design called “Discs.’

I’m thrilled to be able to show you the finished stitched canvas hot off the tapestry frame, thanks to the wonderful Yvonne who stitches all the Studio Stitches prototypes at record speeds and with such skill.

The next exciting stage is turning the canvas into a cushion. Which reminds me….If you haven’t already, have a look at my Studio Stitches Instagram for a short video series “From canvas to cushion.” Its’ four parts and shows the steps to:

  1. blocking a finished canvas
  2. preparing the canvas and fabric ready to sew
  3. sewing a simple cushion cover
  4. caring for your needlepoint cushion

Check out my other posts and please, leave me a comment. I’d love your feedback.

Another Autumn landmark is of course Mother’s Day in May

Mother and Child cushions, kits gift wrapped ready for the post.

You may be interested to read a blog I wrote some years ago now, about the origins of Mother’s Day here in Australia
